Ten found guilty of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has ruled against ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to making hurtful comments about the husband and wife's age disparity of 24 years.
The court issued suspended jail terms of up to eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has still to be made public.
A persistent conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's biological sex.
Their legal filing contends that Owens disregarded any factual proof that refuted her assertions opting to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she taught at his lycée.
The pair married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
